Environmental Controls

The electronics that are being tested are very sensitive to condensation, and need to be cooled as well. The conditions in the box are tracked by an Arduino circuit.

Dry Air

There are two possible sources for the dry air. There is a large nitrogen tank (currently not connected), and the dry air pump on the central pillar of the room. To turn on this dry air:

1. find the black knob on the central pillar (facing towards our desk), and turn it about 1/8th of a turn

1. By the testing chamber there is a splitter with 2 knobs, one is large and green (do not use this one), the other connects to the chamber. Turn this to open

1. Go back to the dry air pump on the pillar near the ceiling and look at the pressure gauge. The pressure does not need to be high, even as low as the 0.1 kg/cm^2 mark should be good.

Cooling System

The cooler is located beneath the desk. It's documentation is here: Neslab_Manual.pdf

To run the cooler, flip the switch on the front. It is very loud so you will want to get ear plugs from the machine shop. The current temperature of the coolant is shown on the digital screen on the cooler. Hold down the display button and the screen will show what temperature it is cooling to (this is adjusted by turning the dial whether or not the display is showing the target temp). Here is where it is important to have the Arduino running, the temperature shown on the cooler and by the Arduino differ by usually about 4 degrees. Follow the Arduino temperature as it is closer to the actual equipment that is being tested.

This means that to get the temperature to 16 degrees you should set the cooler to 12
