Ramping High Voltage

The high voltage is connected to the Keithley power supply. See also Controlling the Power Supplies. The sensors can be damaged by applying the voltage with the wrong polarity or too qucikly, so the script Control.py stops the user from doing that.

Monitor that the current is stable. It should spike when the voltage is changed then settle to a lower value. The Compliance current limits the maximum current output and should be set low enough that the sensor does not get damaged. If the current hits the compliance current and stays there then continuing to increase the voltage will not do anything (as it is already being limited).

Operating Voltages

  • The DAQloads run at -400V

Turning on HV

  1. Make sure that the HV cables are correctly connected.
  2. Turn on the Keithley power supply
  3. in the terminal window run Control.py
  4. Run the command ramp_hv with the following arguments:
    1. give the target voltage after the -v flag
    2. give the voltage step size after the -s flag
    3. give the time delay after the -t flag
    4. set the compliance current (in microamps) after the -I flag
  5. If there are any problems and you want the script to stop, press Ctrl+C to stop the ramping process. Then either change the voltage through the script again (ramp it back down), or take manual control of the machine (press the "local" button then change the voltage by hand).
